Mark Dorrington–Niblett is a qualified Commercial Yacht Captain, a recognised Marine Surveyor and is a Member of the International Institute of Marine Surveying.

He started his sea-going experience at the tender age of 5 on the family Freeman. This was the first Freeman to venture out onto the high seas and was aptly named "Tumbler".

Later, as a Royal Navy Cadet in the late 1960's, he had the privilege to serve on the Brave Borderer, a 98 foot Motor Torpedo Boat powered by three Proteus Gas Turbines with in the region of 9000 H.P. in total and capable of nearly 60 knots. Mark has fond memories of patrolling the English Channel at a "gentle" 40 knots cruising speed!

After College with the statutory examination certificates in hand he followed Engineering with an apprenticeship at GARDNER MARINE in London and attended extended courses with PERKINS DIESELS in Peterborough, U.K. and carries a Mechanical Engineering Diploma.

Restoration of a Dell Quay Ranger and later the proud ownership of a Fairey Huntsman was a sound basis for the later management of two ship yards in the South of France from 1985 until 1990.

Mark then moved on to a further nautical career with the importer of a leading make of U.K.- built Sports Cruisers with numerous long haul sea deliveries from the Solent down to the Mediterranean with all manner of power driven vessels.

An MCA Commercial Yacht Master ticket and Mark became the Captain of various Charter Vessels sailing the Mediterranean.

Mark has been surveying and pointing clients in the right direction since 1988 and has frequently aided local surveyors with translation services and technical input on machinery when summoned. He has built and refitted many yachts and has particular knowledge of both diesel and petrol engines. He has written published articles on the restoration and rebuilding of Classic Craft. He regularly attends training courses with the major engine manufacturers to keep abreast of new technologies used on Marine Propulsion Units and Transmissions. He has supervised the refits on Super-Yachts both in Italy and Spain and has a very solid experience in this field. More than 25 years in the Industry in France and over 45 years passion for things Nautical seat Marine Surveyors very firmly in the marine surveying profession.
